I love NYC because there is such an international vibe. At school drop-off in the morning I hear at least 5 or 6 different languages or accents. I speak French so my ears perk up especially when I hear it. With these different backgrounds come different ways people dress, even running errands. It's (literally) all over the map. Just going to Whole Foods I get inspired.
A couple of years ago TopShop came on to the scene. With a lot of hoopla, they launched their first US store in SoHo, right on Broadway. It was a huge hit. Now Nordstrom carries TopShop, and the store is everywhere, but I still feel like you can take their pieces and inject them in such a way that is unique to your own style.
TopShop to me has a Euro-Prep-Sexy-Retro vibe at a great price point. Their shoes are awesome. I'm wearing Topshop shoes here, but those fringe pumps are no longer available. I'm also wearing Amber Kane's scarves (here) - more on that later! But my favorite is my Topshop WHITE leather culottes! I'm so in love with the culotte look, and by the looks of Fashion Week, they are not going anywhere. Yay.
