Oh the Snow Day that wasn't! We were supposed to have 3 feet of snow and got a measly 7 inches. But my fridge is stocked (of 27 yogurts?!?!) and it still feels cozy and cold at the same time. Perfect for getting under a duvet with popcorn and a juicy Diet Coke; Perfect Movie Day.
I got to thinking about my little known favorites and wanted to share them with you. I am all over the place with my tastes but the resounding element has to be love, in any form. Any form at all. Check out some of my favorites, and please let me know yours! It will surely snow again...
(500) DAYS of SUMMER is a great rom com from his point of view. I fell in love with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Amazing message that I related to. Zooey Deschanel (while not my fave), is a dark version of her spunky self. GREAT soundtrack that I love listening to!
MAGIC IN THE MOONLIGHT came out last year and was not well-publicized. Who knew that Colin Firth could have chemistry with Emma Stone? Great plot, taking place in the 20s in the South of France, with the best costumes. Major eye-candy.
PRICELESS - This French movie (with English Subtitles) is such a fun and surprising love story. I mean, Audrey Tautou is a con artist! The subtitles won't bug you and you'll get to hear the french intonations. yummy....
THE STEPFORD WIVES - 70s thrillers are the best. Really. The clothes alone are worth reliving, but add in the feminist message and campy creepiness and you will appreciate how far women have come since our moms. Katharine Ross (of The Graduate and Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid) is gorgeously torn up about societal pressures to be perfect. You know, like all of us. If only I looked like her when I cried...
GIANT - Look, James Dean passed away before this film wrapped. Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor shine in this movie. Watch this epic move about ranching in Deep Texas and call it History Class. It's one of my favorites.
PROHIBITION - I think my passion for politics or at least my general intelligence and awareness grew after watching this 3-part documentary. It came out only a little while ago and is so well done. Goes from start to finish of the Prohibition movement and is interesting along the way. My jaw dropped several times and it was hugely entertaining. A worthy binge-watch. You'll thank me.
BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB - The music in this documentary about the lost musicians (and music!) of Cuba gets to your heart. It's beautiful, the story is amazing, and the unfinished business tugs at my heart. If you can't watch the movie download the SOUNDTRACK.
